With Pro
Your photographer, live on the screen
The photographer shoots, the laptop saves into a folder, and each new photo is on the slideshow seconds later. No memory cards to swap and nothing to upload by hand.
How to set it up
- 1
Get Pro for your slideshow
Folder sync comes with Pro. Upgrade in Settings, or redeem a gift card code there. See Pricing. - 2
Open Live on the photographer’s laptop
Use Chrome or Edge on a computer. If the photographer brings their own laptop, invite them to your team as a Moderator: they get Live and nothing else. - 3
Pick the folder
In Live, press Add posts, then “Keep a folder in sync”, and choose the folder the photos are saved to. The browser asks if the page may see that folder. It can only read it, never change or delete anything. - 4
Shoot
Every 5 seconds it looks for new photos and videos and sends each one once it has finished saving. Photos already in the folder wait for you: add them too, or only the new ones from now on. - 5
Leave Live open
It keeps going while you move around the dashboard. Closing the tab or putting the laptop to sleep pauses it, so set the laptop to stay awake. Press Stop in Live when you’re done.
Where the photos can come from
Anything that saves photos into a folder on the laptop works.
Tethered shooting
The camera is connected to the laptop by cable or Wi-Fi in Lightroom Classic, Capture One, Canon EOS Utility, Nikon NX Tether or Sony Imaging Edge. Point the app at the synced folder.Wi-Fi or FTP transfer
Cameras that send each shot over Wi-Fi or FTP, or a Wi-Fi SD card, saving into a folder on the laptop. The best ones only
The photographer picks and edits between sets, then exports from Lightroom or Photo Mechanic into the folder. Only those go on the screen.A shared folder
A Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive folder kept on the laptop. A second photographer, or the venue’s own camera, saves into it from anywhere.
Good to know
- Which files
- JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC photos, and MP4 and MOV videos. RAW files are left out, so shoot RAW plus JPEG, or export JPEGs.
- Subfolders too
- A folder per set or per card is fine: it looks three folders deep. Hidden folders, like an app’s thumbnails, are skipped.
- Nothing twice
- A copy or a renamed file of a photo already sent is skipped. An edited photo exported again is a new photo, so it goes.
- Straight on screen
- Posts from your team skip Approve first. To hold one back, hide it in Live like any other post.
- Posted as you
- They show under the name you post with in Add posts, for example “Photos by Anna”.
- Sized for screens
- The screen and the album get a sharp copy made for screens. Keep the originals for the final gallery.
- After a reload
- Pick the same folder again. Photos already sent from this browser aren’t sent again.
